Today's Picture of the Day is the Burlington Firefighter's Memorial. The memorial statue is located in
front of the Burlington Fire Department's state of the art headquarters that opened in 2002. The new 16,500 sq. ft. building replaced the outdated facility that was built originally in 1965. The Burlington Volunteer Fire department was founded in 1943 by a group of concerned citizens.
The memorial statue was donated to the Burlington Fire District by Judy, Tracy and Brad Kirkpatrick. The memorial is dedicated to Donnie Kirkpatrick who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his community in the line of duty in 1989. The memorial asks for God's protection for all who unselfishly serve the community as Firefighters and EMS in Boone County.
