A Boone County High School graduate and Florence resident was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan. Anthony Campbell was on reserve duty for the Air Force reserve. Mr. Campbell was a 1992 graduate of Boone County High School. Anthony Campbell was also a Cincinnati Police Officer. Officer Campbell leaves behind his wife, Emily, a stepson Devin, and children Jordan, 7, and Ryker, 2.
Plans are already being made to honor him and to add Anthony Campbell's name to the War on Terror monument at the Veterans Memorial of Boone County. Officer Campbell will join Conner High School graduate Christopher T. Warndorf on the War on Terror monument. Warndorf gave the ultimate sacrifice to his country in August of 2006.
Please join with everyone in the Florence and Boone County communities in praying for this family who is grieving the loss of a true American hero who gave his life protecting all of us.
You will find more information about Anthony Campbell here.

On Saturday December 5th, the Boone County Businessmen's Association and the Boone County Jaycees held their annual Community Prayer Breakfast at the Cincinnati Airport Hilton on Turfway Road in Florence. The Prayer Breakfast has been a Boone County tradition for over 30 years. The Prayer Breakfast has always been an event that allowed the community to come together in a spirit of faith and reflect on the true meaning of the Christmas season. Past speakers at the Prayer Breakfast have included Gov. Julian Carroll, UK basketball player Cameron Mills, former Bengals kicker Doug Pelfrey, Gary Greisser, and Roger Bingham of "Survivor" fame.
The emcee for this year's event was Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce president Steve Stephens. The featured speaker at this year's breakfast was John D. Russell, the
senior minister at the Lakeside Christian Church. Russell is an
accomplished speaker and the author of "Love God, Love One Another". Florence Mayor Diane Whalen and Boone County Judge Executive Gary Moore were in attendance at the event. The 2009 event was one of the best attended Prayer Breakfasts in the event's history.

The Christmas Tree Lighting event featured many great Christmas activities for families to participate in. The event featured Christmas music
performed by the Florence Community Band and the Florence Community
Chorus. Families could take a sleigh ride around the campus of the Government Center to see all of the spectacular lights. The jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus, was on hand to see what the children of Florence want for Christmas. The crowd joined in the singing of Jingle bells to welcome Santa to Florence. Florence Mayor Diane Whalen was on hand at the event and the Florence Christmas tree was officially lit for the season.
It was a great evening for the children of Florence and their families.

Current President Gary Winn shared a brief story about the founding of the organization back in 1969. He recalled that it was former Representative Bill McBee that served as the first president. Over the years the club had shifted its focus but remains true to it’s roots of promoting business in Boone County.
Current outreach activities for the club include a golf outing for CASA, a youth scholarship contest and delivering presents to those in need during the holidays. Their biggest project of the year is the Bean Bash, which raises large sums of money for Redwood, BAWAC and Special Olympics. The Businessmen also partner with the Boone County Jaycees for several events throughout the year and will be working on their joint Prayer Breakfast to be held December 5th at the Commonwealth Hilton.
For more information on joining the Boone County Businessmen’s Association or the prayer breakfast, please contact President Gary Winn.
