Martin Luther King Day in Florence

The City of Florence will be holding its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Program on Monday, January 18, 2010. The program will be held at the Florence Government Center on Ewing Blvd. and will begin at 3:00 PM. The city will acknowledge Dr. King's accomplishments as a civil rights leader and social activist.

The Martin Luther King Day Program in Florence will include a welcome and a history of the holiday presented by Florence Mayor Diane Whalen. There will be a reading of the famous "I Have A Dream" speech by Bishop Nerrick L. Jackson. Music will be provided by the Grace of God Ministries Choir. There will be a Freedom March around the Florence Government Center Campus with a ringing of the Florence Freedom Bell by Mayor DIane Whalen and Bishop Jackson. There will be displays available for viewing from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the lobby of the Florence Government Center.

Signs of Christmas in Florence

Signs that the holiday season is about to arrive are popping up all over Florence. The warm weather has allowed Florence residents to get a head start on getting their decorations out early this year. As you drive around the city, you will see the Christmas themed banners hanging on light posts throughout the city.

One of the signs that Christmas is about to arrive is the sight of Santa's chair appearing at the Florence Mall. Each year children can't wait to see Santa's arrival at the Florence Mall so they can spend some time letting the jolly old man know what they want for Christmas. The tradition of visiting Santa at the Florence Mall is special to the residents of the community. Seeing Santa's chair arrive, along with the other holiday decor around the mall gives all of us that special feeling that only the Christmas season can. Santa is scheduled to arrive at the mall on November 21st!

So, its time to start your shopping and time to get the kids to the mall to meet with the man himself. There's nothing quite like the holiday season in Florence Kentucky!

Halloween in Florence

It is hard to believe, but it is almost time for Halloween in Florence. The City of Florence recently announced the official times for trick-or-treating. The official hours are 6:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, October 31st. In addition to the traditional night of neighborhood trick-or-treating, there are several other Halloween activities being planned throughout Florence.

The Boone County Library is planning all sorts of Halloween fun for children of all ages, including a party for babies ages birth to 18 months. You will find a complete list of Halloween activities at the Boone County Libraries here.

The Florence Mall will be holding its annual trick-or-treat event on Tuesday October 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.Children are urged to wear their costumes and can trick or treat at the Mall's stores.

October 27th is also the date set aside for the City of Florence Halloween Night Out. The Halloween Night Out will be held between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at the Florence Government Center. There will be activities for children from toddlers to twelve years old. It will provide a safe environment to trick-or-treat and will have many fun activities for children to enjoy. In addition to neighborhood trick-or-treating on October 31st, the Burlington Baptist Church will be having their "Candy on the Corner" event. From 5:00-6:30 there will be several booths set up giving away treats on the corner of East Bend Road and Route 18 in Burlington, just past the courthouse at the four-way stop.
